Computer Classes in Boarding Schools and Youth Centres

Where did the idea for this project come from? I became interested a long time ago in the problems faced by children and young people with physical disabilities in development and adaptation to normal life - especially those who live in orphanages and boarding schools. After all, they have nobody to care for them but the state. And I think these kids and young people need help more than anybody else in getting access to ways of communicating with the world around them, development, education and work opportunities. The internet gives them this opportunity.

My Foundation is relatively new and we’ve launched the projects gradually – the CSE hotline on youth issues, the construction of a sports centre in Tskhinval, the project to provide new books for rural libraries. But when Youth Year started I realized that I absolutely must start some projects for the support and development of young people. And that’s where the idea of setting up computer classrooms in boarding schools and youth centres came from. I decided to launch the project in Tatarstan, because I represent the people of that region in the State Duma.

In the summer of 2009, my Charity Foundation team took a trip to Tatarstan to gather information on children’s establishments in the republic and they visited many of them.  We then selected a few boarding schools that will be equipped with computer classrooms and internet access.

Alina Kabaeva Charity Fund

My charity foundation has already existed for several years. At first it focused mainly on sport, but then I realized I couldn’t restrict myself to just one area of activity. So today the foundation is active in several fields.

Each of the foundation’s projects and specific activity is a matter of prime importance for me. In this section I will write about what the foundation does, which projects it is running today and what we have managed to achieve.
